Characteristics and selection of bone substitute materials
Author Christer Dahlin
To earn CE credits a lecture has to be watched completely and the referring exam needs to be passed. An exam is passed if at least 70% of all answers are correct.
After achievement a personal certificate is issued. It is valid 1 year. The certificate is anytime retrievable in the „My certificates“ area on Dental Campus.
The exam can be repeated 4 times. Each re-examination can be taken after anytime.

- Understand the biological principles of GBR
- Explain the synergistic effect of guided bone regeneration with a focus on membranes and osteoconduction with a focus on filling materials
- Choose the appropriate membrane for a given clinical defect
- Classify available membrane materials into the following groups: collagen derived, gel based, synthetic as well as resorbable and non-resorbable
- Understand the clinical handling of the different membrane types and the clinical procedures with an emphasis on flap management
- Recognize situations asking for horizontal or vertical ridge augmentation
- Understand the differences between different bone substitute materials
- Classify available bone substitute materials into the following groups: autogenous, allogenic, xenogenic, alloplastic
- List the advantages of bone substitute materials over autogenous bone transplants
